IN the creation story it was said that when God had finished creating everything, He saw that it was good and lastly, to crown His work, He created man in His own image and likeness. Though man was a latecomer in creation, however, it pleased God to put everything under his feet.

The psalmist observed passionately though: what is man that God should care for him? God gave him dominion over the works of his hand. Genesis 1v26  authenticates it further: ‘… let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.’ With this, man therefore is expected this year to overcome every obstacle and challenge that may come his way.

Isaiah 60v1 urges all believers to: ‘Arise, shine; for thy light is come and the glory of Jehovah is risen upon them.’ However, the two things we need to seriously guard against if we must have dominion this year include: sin and fear.

When a child of God is living in sin, it will make it difficult for him to have dominion in all spheres of life. The devil aware of this has determined to hold down people of God and their blessings from the throne of grace. We must remember that sin when it sticks, is a spoiler. Reuben the first son of Jacob could not go far because he soiled himself when he went in to one of his father’s concubines Bilhah and Jacob had to say: ‘Reuben, thou art my first-born, my might, and the beginning of my strength; the pre-eminence of dignity, and the pre-eminence of power. Boiling over as water, thou shalt not have the pre-eminence; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; Then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch,’ Gen. 49v3-4

As a child of God are you presently living in sin? Remember, it is your year of dominion; sin if not reed of, may be a stumbling block to your favour and breakthrough. We advise that we should avoid every form of sin in order not to entangle ourselves with the things of the world.

Secondly, we have to deal with fear, which is another deadly weapon the devil is using against the children of God. When we allow fear to overtake our lives, it tampers with our faith in God. Therefore, prophet Isaiah will say to us: ‘Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God…  Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help,’ Isaiah 41v10-14.

Fear is of the devil and when it grips a believer, he will not fulfill God’s purpose in his life. What is making you to fear? Certainly, this 2014 is in the hand of God and wonderfully, God has given it as a year of dominion. We have dominion over death, unemployment, insecurity, academics, marital problems and so on. Therefore, let us go about our work re-assured that the Lord will see us through. After all, He says to us: ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end,’ Jer. 29v11. Child of God, do not be intimidated, it is your time to break forth, Alleluia.
