YOUR TOMORROW IS IN GOD’S HAND
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; …? Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, ……..” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? …”. (Matt 6:25, James 4:13-14).
Ordinarily, life is full of challenges. Yet, those challenges are not to exasperate the believer. His or her confidence is that his/her tomorrow is in God’s hand. No matter what happens therefore he is safe.
Notice, two Bible passages will guide us in this reflection. First, from James Chapter 4:13-18 and secondly Matthew 6:25. From James the elder, he counsels the believer not to bother himself about what tomorrow will bring on his way. He says: “you who say today and tomorrow we will do business, what is your life? The understanding is that the Christian should not be pre-occupied with tomorrow for the great “I AM” or “I AM WHOM I WILL BE” is in charge of our tomorrow. There is no need to weigh ourselves down with tomorrow. Surely, the believer is to humbly and simply trust the Lord. Remember, any trust put in Him will not make us to be confounded.
Then from Matthew 6:25, Jesus teaches His hearers not to be anxious about anything. He is aware that there are things that will be of immense help to life like food, clothing and drinks. Yet, He say don’t be anxious. Is life not more than these? Jesus brought a justification on why we should not bother ourselves. He observed that what we need the Gentiles also need them and God in His wisdom provides for us. One is really touched when He says: consider the lilies of the field or the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap, yet, your heavenly Father provides for them. Is your life of not more value than they? God is always thinking and feeling for His children. Therefore, relax and allow Him to attend to all that pertains to you.
However, what is expected of the Christian is to trust the Lord and not to lean on your own understanding, (Prov. 3:5). It is God and God alone who can give impetus to our lives. The Psalmist in recognition of this says of Him: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain, (Psalm 127:1). Necessarily, God is what we need at all times.
Therefore, live in the now and let this God take care of your tomorrow. Impliedly, every negative thought or attitude should be put aside and our trust built on Him Who holds our tomorrow. Yes, Jesus is what we need in every situation of our lives even now. He will not disappoint, He will not fail us. We urge every child of God today sing meditatively:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
Because I know o o o, He holds my future,
My life is worth a living joy, because He live, Amen!
