TIMES OF REFRESHING, IBRU CENTRE, AGBARA-OTOR 2010

LOCAL CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY CHURCH, WARRI,

YOUTH MINISTRY

BY GABRIEL KPAGBAN

The atmosphere was charged with love, enthusiasm and great anticipation as young people from different local church assemblies’ starts arriving the serene environment of the IBRU centre, AGBARHA-OTOR, the venue of the three days youth retreat conveyed by Rev. Abraham Ogome and the Youth Ministry of the Local Christian Assembly Church, Warri.

Different activities were lined up for the three days retreat: singing, recitations, quiz, drama, word ministrations, and outdoor games.

On Friday 29th, the retreat starts with a message by Br. OSAS SAMUEL a youth minister from Agbor, titled “Kept By The Power of God”, he exhorted the young people that the only way to live a Christian life especially in schools is by a complete reliance on the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ and challenged the young people to take a stand for what is noble and pursue high goals that will make an impact on the society. This was accompanied by such worship that can only be described as heavenly.

They had early morning devotion on Saturday 30 Oct., from 6.30 am to 7.30 am, ministering Pastor Solomon William from Isiokpor, River State, he spoke on the topic “Receive ye the holy ghost”. He charged the young people that in order to overcome the power of temptation today is to be filled with the baptism with the Holy Ghost, while the message was going on the heavens opened and the rain poured in torrents and increased the worship atmosphere.

The weather, drizzling rain could not deter the enthusiasm of the young to fully enjoy themselves in the outdoors games, football, 100 meters race, catching the train (where sisters dressed in native attire, this is to determine who can dress quickest and still be smart), filling the basket with footballs, sack races, seven thunder races. It was fun all the way. Participating young people were registered into three groups for the activities with group names “Flaming sword; Cherubim and Michael is here”. Group members cheered participants into victory with different songs.

The Saturday evening service was outstanding, a lot of singing, recitations, drama(s), quiz competitions and testimony by Br. Isaac Imasuen from Benin City. The presence of God was mightily felt, young people were crying out to God, yearning for more of God to fill their lives. Tears flowed as the joy of the Lord overwhelmed our hearts. The worship continues till about 1.0am Sunday morning.

As Bro. Vincent Imieje captioned the events on Sunday “Then comes Sunday morning service, how time flies, we realised we were have been in eternity and all of a sudden, we were back in time. But though we had to go back home”. Rev. Abraham Ogome brought a mighty message to exhort young people to be steadfast in their faith, and that the presence of God will go with them to keep and deliver them from every danger. His message title was: My Angel shall go before you and deliver you. It was a masterpiece preaching.

All the young people numbering over 120 join in one voice and in one accord to offer tributes of praise to our God. They sang and danced. It was a tremendous atmosphere. The retreat came to an end with a song by Br. Gideon from Isiokpor, “Satan is under my feet”.

The events of this last weekend cannot be captured by writing, but need to be experienced. Many thanks go to the organizer of the retreat, Bro. Vincent Imieje and the entire members of the planning committee who made the retreat a success.

  1. Thanks be to God in the highest. The impact of this visitation is still lingering with our young people and the Calebs that attended from our local church. It shows that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and today and forever.
