KNIGHTS OF IKWERRE AT IBRU CENTRE
REV. CANON GABRIEL KPAGBAN
IT was a weekend of spiritual rejuvenation for the Council of Knights of the Diocese of Ikwerre (Anglican Communion), as they spent it at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State. Ikwere Diocese is located in Rivers State. The theme of the retreat was,“Heaven is real — Knights where are you?” According to the Chaplain of the Knights, Ven. A. O. Chukuigwe, the theme was prayerfully selected to draw the consciousness of heaven to the participants, and to propel them to labour hard with heaven as their goal. He reasoned that with so many distractions in life, one might be tempted to forget about where to spend eternity.
The Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Blessing Enyindah spoke in the same vein when he addressed the Knights. He encouraged them to always be engaged in the work of the Lord with the aim of making heaven. He urged them to use their wealth to build the diocese to an enviable position and also put in their spiritual weight to bring about a spiritual awakening in the church.
While in the Centre, the knights involved themselves in fasting and prayer, seeking the face of the Lord both for themselves, the church and the nation. They had Bible expositions based on discipleship training and the theme, singing inspirational hymns and receiving lectures based on the theme and other spiritual exercises.
According to the President of the Council, Sir. Dr. N. Onyekwere, it was a weekend well spent. The Knights left for home on Sunday, but not after Dame Oya Obinna made a donation of N100,000.00 for the upkeep of the Centre.
