HARVEST THANKSGIVING

BY

ERNEST ONUOHA

Last Sunday, St. Michael’s Anglican Church Amulu Mbieri, in Owerri Diocese celebrated their annual harvest thanksgiving service.

The service was conducted by the Priest in-charge, Rev. Dr. Timothy Agoha. The first lesson taken from I Chronicles 29V1-13 was read by Lady Thelma Opara, while the second lesson Matthew 6V19-34 was read by Engr. Shedrack Egbuchulem.

Preaching a sermon earlier in the service, Ven. (Barr) Ernest Onuoha, Rector Ibru International Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor in Delta State on the topic: LET US RISE UP AND BUILD: Neh. 2V18, called on all Christian men and women to follow the examples of the biblical Nehemiah. Nehemiah though a Civil Servant at Suza, still had a concern for the house of God in Jerusalem. The stories he had about the ruins on the walls of Jerusalem touched his heart and he broke down and wept. But the king Artaxerxes was sympathetic and gave him some time off to attend to the work of the Lord. Quickly, he travelled home and inspected the broken walls quietly and this made him to rally his country men and women to support the work of God.

Ven. Onuoha argued that in our own time and day, it is our duty at the time of harvest to be thankful and supportive to the work of God. David the king gathered materials for the house of God, his son Solomon built a befitting temple in honour of our God.

Incidentally, St. Michael’s Amulu had a gigantic ongoing new church project, Ven. Onouha called for seed of faith to support practically the work of God and many responded. And thereafter he offered special prayers on their behalf to God.

The choir led by Sir Ephraim Onuzie later rendered many beautiful harvest songs.

The Chairman of 2011 Harvest committee, Sir Sampson Akuwike (JP), thanked the choir and members for their wonderful support and prayed God to help them finish the new church building in a record time. Some prominent members of the church in attendance included: Sir Onyema Opara, HRH, Eze G.C. Duru, Dr. Sir. Nelson Ehirim, Elder Augustine Anozie and Catechist Jemihe Williamson among others.
