The Bishop of Ughelli Diocese (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Cyril O. Odutemu ordained 3 new Priests and 2 Deacons on the 10th of July, 2011 at the All Saints Cathedral, Iwhreko, Ughelli as part of his episcopacy duties in the diocese.

Those priested were the Revd Moses Eghirewovwi, Revd Favour Efetobor, while those made deacons were Revd Akporehwe Johnson and Revd Samson Omoyibo.

Well wishers, friends and family members from all walks of life converged at the All Saints Cathedral to cheer these new entrants into the pastoral ministry.

The Church of Nigeria maintains the historic threefold ministry of Bishop, Priest and Deacons. The church believes that ordination belongs to both God and His church, and it is God the Holy Spirit who equips and empowers His people for ministry and commissions them for service in His church and His world.

In a sermon titled “the honour and horror of the ordained ministry” Revd Canon Charles Badawusi noted that the Priesthood is honourable because it is a calling from God, and not the making of man (Heb. 5:4). He said the challenges, the barriers and obstacles posed by Satan in the cause of ministry constitute the horrors of the ministry. He therefore called on the newly ordained to depend wholly on the Holy Spirit and live a life of humility and service to all.

Among those who officiated in the service was Revd Canon Jerry Okorodudu who read the New Testament, His Royal Majesty R. L. Ogbon Oghoro Ogoni I – The Owhorode of Olumu Kingdom who read the Old Testament and Revd Favour Efetobor who read the Gospel from Mark 10:35-45.

Other personalities present at the service were the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Ven. O. D. Edjere, Ven. (Barr) Ernest Onuoha – Rector of Ibru Centre as well as the Chaplain and his wife Rev. Canon & Mrs. Gabriel Kpagban.

The bishop appreciated all who attended the service, prayed for God’s blessing on all and also blessed all the Urhobo clans that make up the diocese.

By this ordination, Ughelli Diocese which is blessed with the highest number of Priest in Bendel Ecclesiastical Province now has more than 117 Priests.
