BITS FROM IBRU CENTRE
REV. CANON GABRIEL KPAGBAN
DIOCESE OF WARRI HOLDS EASTER RETREAT AT IBRU CENTRE
The Diocese of Warri (Anglican Communion) held her Easter Retreat at the Ibru Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State on 26th to 29th April, 2011.
The theme of the retreat was ‘The Minister Without Kingdom Vision’. Preaching on the theme the Revd. Canon M. O. Imonisan who quoted from Luke 24:46-47 said many believers have lost the vision of the kingdom of God. That Christ suffered and died, then rose again. He did all the salvation of the world. He said the vision of the church is to win souls to the kingdom of God.
He therefore noted that, many ministers have different vision – the vision of money, ‘belly’, Women – instead of preparing the congregation for God’s kingdom.
The keynote speaker, the Rt. Rev. Cyril O. Odutemu (Bishop of Ughelli Diocese) said ‘the business of the kingdom is to win men for Jesus Christ’. Jesus knew that He had a very short time on earth physically and He needed men to carry out the work of salvation. Thus He commissioned men to take over the work of saving souls.
The Bishop said the minister without the kingdom vision looked at earthly things instead of spiritual things. Such people, he said, are not called by God into the ministry
Also Rt. Rev. Joseph G. Imudje who spoke on the subtopic: ‘Salvation belong to Jesus Christ’. In his message he said, the Christians’ race is all about battle. The battle to carry out the kingdom vision the way God intends it to be is a serious issue in life.
The Israelites’ vision was to leave the land of bondage to the Promised Land. In achieving this they needed the salvation or deliverance of the Lord.
In like manner Christians need the salvation of Jesus Christ to be among the people sealed for the Last Day of the Lord.
What the world needs more today is Jesus Christ the Saviour of mankind.
In a closing remark, the chairman of the planning committee Ven. Ishokare thanked the Bishop and members of the planning committee for their effort at putting the conference together. He thanked the Bishop for the opportunity given to him to serve.
