BY REV. CANON GABRIEL KPAGBAN
Ibru International Centre came agog as the Diocese of Ikwerre of the Ecclessiastical Province of the Niger Delta held her Clergy and Wives retreat in the Centre on 4th to 8th of October, 2010. The conference was lead by the Bishop of the Diocese Rt. Revd. & Mrs. Blessing C. Eyindah.
The theme of the conference was “Understanding the Priesthood”. Different resource persons were invited by the Diocese to deliver lectures at the conference which was spiritually renewing. Among those invited were; the Rt. Revd. Christian Ide, Bishop of Warri Diocese; Mrs. Blessing Muoghereh (Mama Ughelli), Ven. John U. Arhuakpo and others. The Clergy & Wives also took time out to pray for the nation, the church, their Diocese and their personal needs.
On ground to receive them were the new Rector and the new Chaplain of the Centre, Ven. Barr. Ernest Onuoha and Revd. Canon Gabriel Kpagban respectively amongst other management staff of the centre. The Rector expressed delight at the decision of the Diocese to choose the centre as their conference venue for the year. He also extended hands of invitation to other Dioceses, groups and individuals to come to the centre, since the place is good for such spirit – moving retreats. At the centre people encounter God and their prayers are answered accordingly.
While at the centre, the medical team of the Ibru Clinic carried out different tests on the participants: such as sugar test, malaria test, urine test and blood pressure test, etc. This was done to achieve the holistic idea of modern day ministry.
The Bishop of the Diocese was highly encouraged by the Clergy and their Wives for their hunger for spiritual growth which culminated in the organization of the conference. According to him it was a sign of good things for the future of the diocese. The conference was rounded off with a thanksgiving service at St. Peter’s Chapel in the Centre. After, a communiqué was issued by the Diocese. Below is the full text of the communiqué:
